John Dennis, founder of Indigenous House, is proud of its evolution and unique status of filling a specific void in black LGBT culture. Now in its seventh year of operation, this annual 10-hour musical marathon held at Piedmont Park has grown massively, becoming one of the largest outdoor events dedicated to black LGBT people in the nation. That mantra lives on vivaciously through Indigenous House, a free Atlanta-based music festival celebrating the roots of house music. Over 25 years ago, the late Ron Hardy mixed down a huge track on Marshall Jefferson’s sprightly vocals that would rise to become an immense anthem for this new, titillating sound coming out of Chicago’s underground discos: “Gotta have house music, all night long/With that house music, you can’t go wrong.”
